Chhattisgarh: 2 Jawans Injured In Ongoing Bijapur Encounter
Two DRG jawans injured in Maoist encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district

Raipur: Two jawans of district reserve guard (DRG), a counterinsurgency unit of Chhattisgarh police comprising mostly the surrendered Naxals, were on Tuesday injured in an encounter with the Maoists in a forest in Bijapur district under south Bastar in the state.
The encounter started in a forest in Gangaloor at around seven am and was going on till the last reports came.
According to a senior police officer, acting on intelligence inputs on the presence of some armed Maoists in a particular patch in the forest in Gangaloor, a search operation was launched by the security personnel.
Security forces came under attack by Maoists when they were closing in on the camp sheltering the ultras in the forest, leading to a fierce encounter between them.
Two jawans of the DRG were injured in the incident.
They were evacuated from the encounter site and shifted to district hospital in Bijapur.
Later, they were airlifted to Raipur for better treatment.
The two injured jawans were out of danger now, police said.
Exchange of fire between them has been going on intermittently till the last reports came.
Details on the encounter could be known after the anti-Naxal operation ends, police said.
