JJM: Centre Returns 5,289 Crore To States; Includes Karnataka, Kerala, TN, Andhra

New Delhi: The Centre on Thursday said it has reimbursed nearly Rs 5,300 crore as their share to 10 states under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0 during the current financial year and released another Rs 865.87 crore through the SNA SPARSH platform across 13 states to keep the rural drinking water programme on track. The Ministry of Jal Shakti said that during the transition from the completion of JJM 1.0 to the approval of JJM 2.0, several states continued implementation of approved rural water supply schemes using their own financial resources.

Recognising these efforts and to maintain implementation momentum, the government has reimbursed Rs 5,289.09 crore as central share to 10 states in 2026-27, the ministry said in a statement.

The Union cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved JJM 2.0 on March 10, extending the mission till December 2028 with an enhanced focus on ensuring reliable, adequate and safe drinking water services for every rural household.

The mission has an outlay of Rs 8.69 lakh crore, including Central assistance of Rs 3.59 lakh crore, to support states and Union Territories in achieving universal and sustainable drinking water coverage.

Uttar Pradesh received the highest reimbursement of Rs 2,711.52 crore, followed by Karnataka (Rs 795.74 crore), Maharashtra (Rs 594.44 crore), Rajasthan (Rs 537.72 crore), Odisha (Rs 221.44 crore), Chhattisgarh (Rs 149.50 crore), Kerala (Rs 144.66 crore), Tamil Nadu (Rs 96.52 crore), Andhra Pradesh (Rs 23.25 crore) and Madhya Pradesh (Rs 14.10 crore).

The ministry said JJM 2.0 "marks a shift from infrastructure creation to assured service delivery through strengthened gram panchayat-led operation and maintenance (O&M) of water supply systems, source sustainability, water quality surveillance, community ownership and digital governance."

It said a major reform introduced under the mission is the scheme-based payment and release through SNA SPARSH platform, which enables scheme-level fund release, expenditure tracking and real-time monitoring of financial progress.

Assam received the highest allocation of Rs 669.92 crore, followed by Uttar Pradesh (Rs 90.98 crore), Karnataka (Rs 47.30 crore), West Bengal (Rs 30.45 crore), Andhra Pradesh (Rs 10.58 crore), Tripura (Rs 5.98 crore), Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh (Rs 3.88 crore each), Himachal Pradesh (Rs 2.02 crore), Odisha (Rs 0.51 crore), Jharkhand (Rs 0.35 crore), and Punjab and Tamil Nadu (Rs 0.01 crore each).

The ministry said Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil is holding interaction meetings with Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs from states to strengthen field-level implementation and facilitate resolution of constituency-specific issues.

He has so far held meetings with MPs from Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Odisha and West Bengal, while interactions with MPs from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra are scheduled this month.
