New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday approved an increase in Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for 14 kharif crops for the 2026-27 marketing season, with higher hikes for pulses, oilseeds and cotton.
Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the panel cleared MSP revisions ahead of the kharif sowing season beginning with the southwest monsoon in June.
The MSP for paddy has been raised by Rs 72 to Rs 2,441 per quintal for common variety and Rs 2,461 for A-grade. The highest increase has been approved for sunflower seed (Rs 622 per quintal), followed by cotton (Rs 557), nigerseed (Rs 515) and sesamum (Rs 500).
Cotton MSP has been fixed at Rs 8,267 per quintal for medium staple and Rs 8,667 for long staple varieties. Among oilseeds, soyabean (yellow) has been increased to Rs 5,708 per quintal and groundnut to Rs 7,517 per quintal.
In pulses, tur (arhar) MSP has been raised to Rs 8,450 per quintal, urad to Rs 8,200 and moong to Rs 8,780 per quintal.
For coarse cereals, jowar (hybrid) has been fixed at Rs 4,023 per quintal and Maldandi variety at Rs 4,073. Bajra MSP stands at Rs 2,900, ragi at Rs 5,205 and maize at Rs 2,410 per quintal.
Ashwini Vaishnaw said the MSPs have been fixed to ensure remunerative prices and are at least 50 per cent above the cost of production for all 14 crops.
Margins are estimated at 61 per cent for moong, 56 per cent for bajra and maize, and 54 per cent for tur. For the remaining crops, margins are pegged at 50 per cent.
The government has projected a total payout of Rs 2.60 lakh crore to farmers, with procurement estimated at 824.41 lakh tonnes.
