Central BJP leadership reviews Datia by-election defeat at ‘different levels’ of party

Congress has retained the Datia Assembly seat by winning the by-elections

Bhopal: The Central BJP reviewed the defeat of the party in the recently held by-elections to the Datia Assembly constituency in the state amid allegations of internal sabotage.

Sources said that the BJP national president Nitin Nabin has recently held separate meetings with Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav and state party president Hemant Khandelwal to find out the causes behind the loss of the Datia seat in the Assembly by-polls.

The BJP national general secretary (organization) B L Santosh has also separately held meetings with senior party leaders from the state to review the defeat of the party in the by-elections, sources said.

Sources said that several veteran BJP leaders from the state such as urban development minister Kailash Vijayvargiya have recently met Union home minister Amit Shah to brief the situation leading to the loss of the party in the Datia by-polls.

Although the loss of Datia seat has hardly impacted the ruling BJP in Madhya Pradesh which enjoys a brutal majority in the house, the high drama witnessed in the run up to the by-poll has alarmed the Central party leadership.

Narottam Mishra, the veteran of six Assembly elections and a former home minister, made the denial of ticket to him by the party an emotional issue, which threatened a divide between the veteran and Gen. Next leaders in the ruling BJP in Madhya Pradesh.

The Central party leadership had held a series of meetings with the senior state party leaders including chief minister Mr. Majhi, state party president Mr. Khandelwal and several senior party leaders and ministers in the state, to deny the situation to snowball into a major issue of concern for the party, sources said.
