CEC Sends Special Observer to Check 77 Booths in WB After Repoll Pleas
Mr Gupta will send a report to the CEC about his scrutiny

Kolkata: A day after the Assembly polls ended in West Bengal, Election Commission (EC) special observer Subrata Gupta rushed to South 24 Parganas following an instruction from Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar for a scrutiny of demands for repoll at 77 booths in four constituencies in the district.
Mr Gupta will send a report to the CEC about his scrutiny. Mr Kumar called up Mr Gupta on Thursday morning to look into the pleas for the repoll after tapes were found pasted on the BJP candidates' button on the EVMs at many of these booths during the second final phase of polls on Wednesday.
The BJP accused Trinamul Congress of preventing the voters from casting their ballots for its candidates, lodged complaints to the EC about the tampering and sought repoll at these booths. The 77 booths, where repoll has been sought, are 32 at Falta seat, 29 at Diamond Harbour seat, 3 at Budge Budge seat and 13 at Mograhat East seat.
Incidentally, Falta, Diamond Harbour and Budge Budge constituencies fall under Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency where chief minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew and TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee is an MP. The fourth seat is Mograhat East under Joynagar parliamentary constituency.
