CCTV Lapses: NMC Pulls Up 70 Medical Colleges
Commission orders immediate compliance with mandatory surveillance and live feed rules

New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed 70 undergraduate and postgraduate medical colleges to comply immediately with mandatory CCTV surveillance norms after they failed to connect their network video recorders (NVRs) with the commission.
In a public notice, the NMC said the institutions had not complied with regulations requiring installation of CCTV systems, setting up of NVRs and provision of live feed access to its Command and Control Centre. “Despite continuous follow-up by the IT team of NMC, 70 Medical Colleges (UG and PG) have not yet connected their NVRs with NMC,” the notice said.
The commission said the requirement is mandated under the Undergraduate Medical Education Standards Regulations (UGMSR), 2023, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) Regulations, 2023 and the amended Postgraduate Medical Education Standards Regulations (PGMSR), 2023.
Under these norms, medical colleges must install 25 CCTV cameras at prescribed locations, set up NVRs, provide live access to the commission and maintain recordings for 30 days.
The NMC said several institutions remain non-compliant despite repeated follow-ups and asked them to implement the requirements without delay. Colleges facing technical issues have been advised to seek assistance from the commission.
According to the list released by the NMC, Rajasthan has the highest number of defaulting institutions at 13, followed by Maharashtra with 11 and Delhi with eight.
The Delhi institutions include Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences and Dr RML Hospital, Central Health Education Bureau, Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya, ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Basaidarapur, G B Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Maulana Azad Medical College, Indian Railway Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, and University College of Medical Sciences and GTB Hospital.
