The meeting between the Iranian and UAE leaders was the first since the US and Israel attacked Iran and Tehran retaliated by targeting Gulf countries, including the UAE.

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday adopted a resolution hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in successfully hosting the BRICS Summit, which was attended by world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The Cabinet also applauded the Prime Minister for facilitating a meeting between Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the summit. It was the first meeting between leaders of the two sides amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

Defence minister Rajnath Singh is learnt to have read out the resolution praising Modi’s leadership in conducting the summit successfully. It was adopted with applause by all Cabinet ministers.

Singh said it was due to the Prime Minister’s effective leadership that top world leaders had travelled to New Delhi to attend the summit.

Sources said Modi expressed gratitude to his Cabinet colleagues for the gesture.

Singh also pointed out that the event had been conducted smoothly and that the participating world leaders had praised the Prime Minister’s leadership.
