Odisha: CBI Arrests ED Deputy Director for Taking Rs 20 Lakh Bribe

The arrest came after a marathon 12-hour interrogation that began on Thursday evening.

Bhubaneswar:The CBI on Friday arrested Chintan Raghuvamshi, deputy director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Bhubaneswar, on charges of accepting a Rs 20 lakh bribe.

Raghuvamshi was apprehended following an intensive, 12-hour interrogation that began on Thursday evening. Upon completion of questioning, he was escorted to Capital Hospital for the mandatory medical examination, after which he was formally placed under arrest.

According to CBI sources, the officer was allegedly caught red-handed while receiving the first installment of a promised Rs 50 lakh payoff. The bribe was reportedly intended to influence the premature closure of a high-profile mining investigation involving local operators.

Investigators say they had kept Raghuvamshi under surveillance for several weeks after receiving credible intelligence suggesting he was negotiating with mining interests to manipulate case proceedings. His detention marks one of the highest-level arrests to date in an agency mandated to pursue financial crimes.

The arrest has reverberated through India’s law-enforcement community, prompting urgent questions about internal oversight and the integrity of premier investigative bodies. Neither the CBI nor the ED has yet released an official statement on the matter.
