Bomb Threat Emails Trigger Security Alert Across Maharashtra

The email claimed that the RSS had supported the 1984 Operation Bluestar and Operation Woodrose, and called for ‘badla’ (revenge) along with the "end" of the BJP and the RSS, they said.

Mumbai: Multiple municipal and state government offices across Maharashtra received bomb threat emails, triggering widespread security alerts and evacuations. The threats targeted high-profile locations, including the RSS headquarters in Nagpur, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and Mumbai and Pune mayor’s office. Bomb detection squads thoroughly searched the premises, but no explosives were found.

According to police, the emails contained references to ‘Khalistan National Army,’ an armed separatist group, and included inflammatory and threatening content targeting various organisations and institutions.

The email claimed that the RSS had supported the 1984 Operation Bluestar and Operation Woodrose, and called for ‘badla’ (revenge) along with the "end" of the BJP and the RSS, they said.

The emails, with similar content, claimed that an improvised explosive device-laden car would be used to trigger a blast at the Mumbai mayor’s office at 1.11 pm. It also allegedly claimed that several other civic offices would witness explosions later at 3.11 pm. The sender specified that the blasts would be executed using cars rigged with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), said the police.

The police and the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) were notified immediately upon receiving the message. Security measures were tightened around the Mayor's office, the CMO, and the BSE, while additional surveillance has been deployed.

Following the threats, the Mumbai Police, the Cyber Cell, and other security agencies have launched an investigation. Investigative agencies are trying to identify the sender of the email and determine the motive behind the threat.

The police are also working to identify the source of the email and the sender through technical analysis. The cyber team is investigating the email's server location, IP address, and other digital evidence in order to apprehend the sender.

The police are verifying whether the threat was a hoax or was actually linked to the separatist group, sources said.

In Pune, the PMC headquarters in Shivajinagar were also evacuated after receiving a similar bomb threat.

“Police teams were deployed immediately to cordon off the area and handle crowd control around the perimeter,” a senior police officer said, confirming that multi-agency security protocols were activated without delay.

In Nagpur, security alerts were triggered at the RSS headquarters in Mahal and the Hedgewar Smruti Mandir premises in Reshimbag. While extensive searches by bomb squads yielded no suspicious objects, additional security measures were deployed at the Reshimbag premises.

The police urged people not to panic and assured that all necessary security measures were in place.
