The event will be held in the presence of BJP national president Nitin Nabin: Reports
NEW DELHI: The BJP will organise a special programme at its headquarters on Sunday to mark the 99th birthday of party veteran and former deputy prime minister L.K. Advani, who will enter the 100th year of his life.
Born on November 8, 1927, Advani is a recipient of the Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian award.
The BJP said the programme, coinciding with Diwali, would commemorate Advani's contribution to the party, his dedication to the nation and his long journey in public life.
The event will be held in the presence of BJP national president Nitin Nabin. Several senior party leaders, including Advani's daughter Pratibha Advani and Union minister Piyush Goyal, will attend.
The programme will begin at 10 am with a puja and havan, followed by the screening of a 20-minute video highlighting Advani's life and key speeches.
Senior leaders will then deliver presentations recalling significant episodes from his political career and contributions to the party.
Pratibha Advani and Goyal will address the gathering, followed by Nabin, who will speak about the veteran leader's contributions to the nation and the BJP.
The party said it had always held in high regard the contributions, ideas and dedicated service of its senior leaders, mentors and visionaries.
"The party has consistently maintained that the lives and ideologies of such great personalities serve as a source of inspiration for future generations," it said.
The BJP reiterated its commitment to preserving Advani's legacy and carrying forward his ideals and vision.
