BJP MLA Complains To Police Against 6 Partymen For Beating Him

The list of six includes the names of a booth president and a mandal president of BJP: Reports

KOLKATA: West Bengal BJP MLA Subhasis Om has lodged a complaint with the Debra police station in West Midnapore against six of his party workers for allegedly beating him on Monday evening following his protest against extortion by them in his constituency: Debra.

The list of six includes the names of a booth president and a mandal president of BJP. On the other hand, a counter complaint has been lodged against Mr Om and his aides. The police are examining both the allegations. No one has been arrested however.

On Tuesday, the BJP MLA alleged, “I only tried to intervene in the dispute in view of our government's policy of zero tolerance against extortion. But I can see extortion has not stopped. It is continuing with the blessings of the district party leadership.”

He claimed, “The amount of extortion ranges around ₹4000. Those who are involved have either joined our party after May 4 or been in the party before that date. As I protested along with four-five others, we came under attack. It was unfortunate because an MLA was assaulted.”

Mr Om added, “There is a cut money culture in Bengal. Some of our party workers have slipped their feet into the same shoes. A jerk is needed to stop it. I have lodged a complaint with the police against six persons with their names.”
