BHUBANESWAR: Two youths were allegedly abducted and brutally assaulted in Bhubaneswar over accusations that they had threatened to circulate a girl student’s video on social media, police said on Tuesday.

Police rescued the victims nearly 12 hours after the abduction and arrested five persons, including the student, in connection with the incident.

The arrested accused were identified as Pramod Sethi, Debashish Mahapatra, Oscar Nath and Brahma Jena, while the identity of the student was withheld.

According to police sources, the two youths had allegedly threatened the student a few days ago, saying they would make her video viral on social media. The student later informed her friends about the matter, following which they allegedly conspired to abduct the duo.

As per the investigation, the victims were on their way to an educational institution in the Patrapada area on Monday when a car intercepted them. Four youths allegedly emerged from the vehicle, assaulted them and forcibly dragged them into the car.

The accused then allegedly took the victims to a secluded location, where they were tied up inside a house and beaten mercilessly, police said.

Following a complaint lodged by the families of the victims, the Info Valley police registered a case and launched an investigation. Acting on specific inputs, police conducted a late-night raid and rescued the two youths.

Info Valley Police Station officials said efforts were underway to trace and arrest other persons allegedly involved in the abduction and assault.
