Beldanga Civic Body Chief Quits

Berhampore: Trinamul Congress’ Beldanga municipality chairperson Anuradha Hajra Banerjee resigned on Thursday, ahead of the a no-confidence motion submitted by her party councillors in the 14-member house.

The TMC has eight councillors, the BJP two and the Congress three, with one seat vacant. Banerjee claimed, “Due to the change of power in West Bengal, I am unable to serve the people of Beldanga municipality. Hence, I am compelled to resign as I thought it is not right to stick to the chair without discharging service.”

BJP councillor Santosh Jhawar alleged that she was facing the wrath of the people as well as opposition from her own party colleagues due to “rampant corruption” prevailing in the municipality.
