Bailey Bridges Draw Remote Bastar Villages To Mainstream Of Development

The Bailey Bridges, constructed by the Border Road Organization (BRO), have helped bridge the remote villages of Bastar, pushed to backwardness due to the decades long Leftwing Extremism, with the main lands, bringing socio-economic transformation of the region.

Raipur: The Bailey Bridges built in the remote villages of Bastar in Chhattisgarh have now become the socio-economic lifeline of the local tribal population.

The Bailey Bridges, constructed by the Border Road Organization (BRO), have helped bridge the remote villages of Bastar, pushed to backwardness due to the decades long Leftwing Extremism, with the main lands, bringing socio-economic transformation of the region.

As many as 21 Bailey Bridges have been constructed in Bijapur district in south Bastar, once considered the Naxal stronghold, so far.

“These structures have considerably improved connectivity to the remote villages and eased access to transportation, healthcare, education, and other essential services”, chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai, who inspected the newly constructed Bailey Bridge at Kondapalli in Bijapur district on Tuesday, said.

The newly built Bailey Bridge, considered a strategic infrastructure project, was constructed on the Kondapalli-Puwarti road corridor, once serving as the core area of the Maoists.

The Bailey Bridges are now serving as important catalysts in expanding development and strengthening citizen-centric services across the region, Mr. Sai said.

During his visit to the Kondapalli Bailey Bridge, Mr. Sai reviewed the infrastructure project, its utility and contribution to the regional development, while describing it as a symbol of the transformation face of Bastar.

Constructed by the BRO, the Bailey Bridge forms a significant component of the Bijapur-Puwarti Road project.

Such bridges are cost-effective, durable and resilient as compared to the conventional bridges.

According to the officials, such bridges can be built at nearly one-fifth the cost of traditional structures and completed within a month, making them highly effective for establishing swift connectivity in remote and sensitive regions.

Mr. Sai said that the infrastructure expansion in Bastar is opening doors to new possibilities and aspirations.

“The Bailey Bridge at Kondapalli is not merely a physical structure, but a powerful symbol of development, trust and good governance”, he said.

It reflects the emergence of a new Bastar, where the benefits of progress are steadily reaching even the most remote and inaccessible regions, bringing positive changes to people’s lives, he added.
