Vajpayee served as the Prime Minister of India three times. He first held office from May 16 to May 31, 1996, and later served from March 19, 1998, to May 13, 2004. He was the first Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru to serve three terms and the first non-Congress Prime Minister to complete a full five-year term.
