Amit Shah Meets Prez Amid Cabinet Rejig Buzz

Ministerial exits and BJP organisational changes fuel reshuffle speculation.

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan amid speculation over a possible reshuffle of the Union Council of Ministers led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Sources described the meeting as a “courtesy call”. The President’s office shared a photograph of the interaction on X.

The meeting follows the Prime Minister’s visit to the President earlier this week.

Speculation over a reshuffle has intensified after senior BJP leader George Kurian stepped down from the Council of Ministers following the completion of his Rajya Sabha term on June 21. He had served as minister of state handling minority affairs, fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying.

Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh, whose Rajya Sabha term also ended on June 21, has not been renominated. He also held the food processing industries portfolio.

Party developments have added to the speculation, with some Union ministers taking up organisational roles in their states. Harsh Malhotra was appointed Delhi BJP president while continuing as minister of state for road transport and highways.

Earlier, Pankaj Chaudhary was appointed president of the BJP’s Uttar Pradesh unit.
