Al-Falah Medical College Under NIA Scanner After Delhi Red Fort Blast

Faculty and students to be questioned as investigators probe links to terror module behind the attack

New Delhi:The government has ordered a forensic audit of all records of Al Falah University, which has come under the scanner following the Delhi blast. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) and other financial investigative agencies have also been directed to examine the money trail of the Haryana-based institution.

The decisions were taken after a high-level meeting chaired by Union home minister Amit Shah, who reviewed the progress of the ongoing investigation into the November 10 blast near Red Fort that killed 13 people and injured several others. The review meeting lasted for about one-and-a-half hours.

“An order has been issued to carry out a forensic audit of all records of Al Falah University. The ED and other financial agencies have also been asked by the government to examine the money trail of Al Falah University,” sources said.

Dr. Umar Nabi, who officials say was driving the Haryana-registered car that exploded, was working as an assistant professor at the university. Three other doctors associated with Al Falah University have also been detained by investigating agencies.

Meanwhile, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has issued a show-cause notice to Al Falah University for displaying false accreditation claims on its website, officials said on Thursday.

In the notice, NAAC said it has found that Al Falah University, “which is neither accredited nor has applied for accreditation by NAAC,” has publicly claimed on its website that “Al-Falah University is an endeavour of Al-Falah Charitable Trust, which has been running three colleges on the campus, namely Al Falah School of Engineering and Technology (since 1997, Graded A by NAAC), Brown Hill College of Engineering and Technology (since 2008), and Al-Falah School of Education and Training (since 2006, Graded A by NAAC).”

“This is absolutely wrong and misleading the public, especially parents, students and other stakeholders,” the notice said.

NAAC has sought an explanation from the university and directed it to remove all references to NAAC accreditation from its website and from any other publicly available or distributed documents.

According to its website, Al Falah University was established by the Haryana Legislative Assembly under the Haryana Private Universities Act. Al Falah Medical College is also affiliated to the university.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the university said it is extending its full cooperation to the investigating authorities to enable them to reach a logical, fair and conclusive determination in a matter pertaining to national security.
