Ahead of 2027 Assembly Polls, Major Reshuffle in Uttar Pradesh BJP

New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh BJP is expected to go in for a major reshuffle following the appointment of Pankaj Chaudhary as state unit chief, ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

Highly placed sources in the Uttar Pradesh BJP told this newspaper that the organisational restructuring will be done after detailed consultations, taking into account strength and weakness of each and every appointee.

“The new team under Mr Chaudhary’s leadership will be named early next year after the end of ‘Kharmas’, an inauspicious month in Hindu calendar, on ‘Makar Sankranti’,” he said.

Hinting a major reshuffle, a senior Uttar Pradesh BJP leader said that nearly half of the state-office bearers will be replaced and similar changes will be witnessed at others levels.

Another senior leader said that a new state team will be formed addressing all political equations and would be a mix of youth and old hands. “Major factors like caste and region, along with experience will be taken into consideration. Young blood will be infused aimed at grooming young leadership in future, in the way Nitin Nabin has been appointed national working president,” he said.

The BJP is aiming for a third consecutive term in the state. The BJP formed the government in Uttar Pradesh in 2017 winning 312 of 403 Assembly seats. Five years later, the BJP retained power winning 255 seats. Sources said that ensuring the third consecutive victory will be the key responsibility of the new team under Chaudhary.

On Saturday, Chaudhary attended a meeting of party Lucknow unit programme in the presence of party chief J.P. Nadda to discuss strengthening the organization, future programmes and effective implementation of public welfare schemes.
