India Test-fires Agni-5 Successfully

The launch, according to defence ministry sources, validated all operational and technical parameters. It was carried out under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command

New Delhi: India on Wednesday successfully test-fired its intermediate-range ballistic missile, Agni-5. Currently India’s longest-range ballistic missile, Agni-5 can strike targets over 5,000 km away and is capable of carrying nuclear warheads. This places it on the threshold between an Intermediate-Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) and an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM).

“The launch validated all operational and technical parameters,” the Ministry of Defence said on Wednesday. The test was conducted under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command.
Agni-5 is designed to be stored in and launched from a mobile canister system, enabling it to be transported and fired from road or rail platforms. This feature enhances flexibility, reduces launch time, and improves survivability in conflict scenarios.
Only a handful of countries worldwide possess the capability to test missiles with ranges of up to 5,000 km. India had earlier issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) for August 20-21 covering a range of around 4,790 km.
Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the missile is a three-stage, solid-fuelled system designed to be highly reliable and mobile.
