Abhishek Faces Cops’ Grilling In Billboard Case, Slams CEC

TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee was questioned for five hours in Kolkata over an unauthorised billboard case and accused Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of targeting his party.

Diamond Harbour Trinamul Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee appeared at Shakespeare Sarani police station again on Wednesday and faced questioning by the cops over five hours in the case of removal of an unauthorised billboard by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation from his party office at Camac Street in the city in August.

At around 11 am, Mr Banerjee visited the police station responding to summons served to him after he sought a 48-hour time. The TMC leader came out after five hours following the recording of his statement in the case. He told the media, “I have always cooperated with the police and other state investigating departments and central agencies in their probe whenever called.”

In a veiled reference to West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari, he then alleged, “But a traitor had switched to BJP after getting a first notice from a central agency some years ago. The government here and New Delhi are illegal because of the way votes were looted in the election through deletion of voters' names on the pretext of SIR.”

Training guns on chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Mr Banerjee claimed, “He froze bank accounts of TMC but that day is not far when he will also face freeze.”
