58 Lakh Odisha Voters Served Notices During Electoral Roll Revision; Final List on Sept.6
Gopalan said receiving a notice does not mean that a voter must appear personally before the election authorities
Bhubaneswar: Around 58 lakh voters in Odisha have been issued notices as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) R.S. Gopalan said on Tuesday.
Of the total notices issued, about 12 lakh were served to voters whose records could not be mapped during the verification exercise, while another 46 lakh received notices because discrepancies were detected in their electoral details.
The notices are being delivered by Booth Level Officers (BLOs), who are also collecting supporting documents from voters to verify their particulars.
Clarifying the procedure, Gopalan said receiving a notice does not mean that a voter must appear personally before the election authorities.
“If the required documents submitted by the voter are found to be sufficient, there will be no need to visit the office of the Election Registration Officer (ERO),” he said. In cases where additional clarification is required, the ERO may seek information through video calls instead of insisting on a physical appearance.
The CEO said the Special Intensive Revision exercise is scheduled to be completed by September 2, while the final electoral roll will be published on September 6.
Meanwhile, Gopalan said 26,745 Form-6 applications have been received since July 5. Form-6 is used by eligible citizens to apply for inclusion of their names in the electoral roll.
The Election Commission has undertaken the revision exercise to update and verify the electoral database ahead of future elections, with officials urging eligible voters to cooperate with the verification process by submitting the required documents within the stipulated timeline.
