40 kgs silver, cash seized from ex-constable's house in MP

Bhopal: Raids by the Lokayukta teams at the bungalow of former constable in state transport department Sourav Sharma here have yielded two quintals of silver bars, and Rs 2.95 crore in cash, besides seven currency note counting machines, police said on Saturday.

The searches which started on Thursday still continued, official sources said.

The search in his bungalow here has also yielded silver jewelry weighing ten kg and gold worth Rs 50 lakh, police said.

Besides, documents showing his properties in Bhopal, Indore and Gwalior were also found, police said.

Sharma was currently away in Dubai.

He was absorbed in the post of constable in the state transport department on compassionate ground following his father’s death in 2016.

His father was serving in the state health department.

Sharma’s appointment in the state transport department indicates his high connections since he was supposed to be absorbed in the state health department where his later father had served.

He had taken voluntary retirement in 2023 when an investigation into corruption in the check posts was going on.

The Income Tax (IT) officials a couple of days ago meanwhile recovered 54 kg of gold and Rs 2.98 crore in cash in a car, abandoned in a forest on the outskirts of Bhopal.

Tips on the abandoned car were given to the police when the Lokayukta raids were going on in Sharma’s house.

The car belonged to one Chetan Gaur, an associate of Sharma, police said.
