4 Held Over Delhi Terror Plot

During interrogation, Shubdeep allegedly disclosed that he was receiving arms and narcotics consignments dropped across the border through drones

New Delhi: Four Punjab residents allegedly linked to an ISI-backed terror and arms network were arrested for planning a terror attack in Delhi-NCR on the directions of Pakistan-based handlers, police said on Thursday.

The accused were identified as Shubdeep Singh alias Vishal, 23, Gurjant Singh alias Rishi, 22, Sajan Singh alias Honey, 28, and Gaganpreet, 24. Police registered a case against the four accused and recovered two foreign-made pistols, nine live cartridges and five mobile phones from them.

Deputy commissioner of police (Special Cell) Praveen Kumar Tripathi said the module was allegedly being handled by Pakistan-based ISI operative Shahzad Bhatti and his associates through social media platforms and foreign phone numbers.

Police said Shubdeep was arrested from Majitha Road in Amritsar after specific intelligence inputs. A semi-automatic pistol, five live cartridges and two mobile phones were recovered from him. During interrogation, he allegedly disclosed that he was receiving arms and narcotics consignments dropped across the border through drones.

Based on his disclosure, police arrested Gurjant and Sajan from Punjab and recovered a Zigana pistol, four live cartridges and two mobile phones from them. Gaganpreet was arrested in Delhi on April 24, and police seized a mobile phone allegedly containing incriminating material.

Tripathi said Gaganpreet had allegedly been tasked with conducting reconnaissance of religious places and police establishments in Delhi. He was also allegedly instructed by Pakistan-based handlers to carry out a firing incident in the national capital.

Police said Shubdeep, Gurjant and Sajan were allegedly involved in receiving arms and narcotics consignments sent from Pakistan through drones. Shubdeep and Sajan had earlier been arrested by Punjab Police in cases under the NDPS Act.

Police said further investigation is underway to identify other members of the network and trace its logistical and financial links.
