3 Die, 32 Fall ill in Indore Due to Suspected Water Contamination

Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) Puspendra Bhargav said that deaths of three people have so far been reported due to water contamination.

Bhopal: At least three people were killed and 32 others fell ill in a locality in Indore, the cleanest city of India, due to suspected water contamination, officials said on Tuesday.

Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) Puspendra Bhargav said that deaths of three people have so far been reported due to water contamination. However, the exact number of casualties in the incident can be known from the health department.

Indore district chief medical and health officer Dr Madhav Prasad Hasani said that 32 people have been admitted to different hospitals in Indore after they fell ill due to suspected water contamination in Bhagirathpura area in the city.

“People say they suffered vomiting and diarrhea after drinking contaminated water”, he said.

Chief minister Mohan Yadav declared assistance of Rs two lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and ordered the local administration to take prompt action in the matter.

State urban administration minister Kailash Vijavargiya, who hails from Indore, visited the patients in different hospitals to know about their conditions.

He said that the state government will bear all the expenditures of the treatment of the patients.

He said that 70 samples of water in the affected area have been collected for test and the reports will come soon.

Action will be taken based on the report, he added.

This is the first such incident in Indore.
