2.5 Lakh Register for Rahul’s Chhatron Ki Goonj Event

Rahul Gandhi arrived in Dehradun on Friday evening, his first visit since the 2022 Assembly elections.

Dehradun: Registrations for Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s “Chhatron Ki Goonj” programme in Dehradun crossed 2.5 lakh, far exceeding the Congress’ estimate of around 50,000, party leaders said.

The event, scheduled at Bannu School Ground, had not commenced at the time of filing the report, but registrations continued despite heavy rainfall on Friday evening. Party leaders said the figures also included students and youth from other states.

Rahul Gandhi arrived in Dehradun on Friday evening, his first visit since the 2022 Assembly elections.

Uttarakhand Congress president Ganesh Godiyal said, “Rahul Gandhi's coming to Dehradun after a gap of nearly four and half years has attracted massive enthusiasm from students to take party in "Chhatron Ki Goonj". His address to the students is a call fpr the country to fight for the rights of the youth and the students. This program will be historic and a big jolt for the ruling BJP and its governments at the centre and Uttarakhand.”

PCC chief spokesperson Garima Mehra Dasauni said, “The event will be an eye opener for the BJP in Uttarakhand and it will have its repercussions and send big message to the BJP's central leadership.” She added that registrations had crossed the 2.5 lakh mark, though final numbers were yet to be confirmed.

The programme is expected to focus on issues such as examination paper leaks, including NEET, and recruitment concerns in the state.

After arriving at the airport, Rahul Gandhi held a meeting with party leaders at a hotel and later visited the family of Congress worker Amar Mehta, who died during preparations for the event.
