A 65-year-old man, hailing from the forested village of Chatva under Papaundh police station, died due to the suspected attack by a tiger in the Panpath buffer zone of Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve.

Body of the deceased, identified as Rajendra Yadav, was found in the Panpath forest on Thursday, a forest officer said.

He was believed to have been attacked by a tiger when he was tending his buffaloes in the forest, leading to his death, a forest officer said.

Nature of injuries on his body clearly indicates that he was mauled to death by a tiger, a local forest office told this newspaper, unwilling to be quoted.

Panpath buffer zone sub-divisional officer Bhura Gaikward visited the spot to probe the incident.

In another incident, a 15-year-old girl was dragged to the forest when she was sleeping in the courtyard of her house in the forested village of Beohari in the wee hours of Wednesday, officials said.

Her mother and sister started searching for her in the forest when they did not find her in the home and later spotted her body in the jungle.

The local divisional forest officer Taruna Verma who visited the spot found pugmarks of leopard in the forest and suspected that the wild cat may have killed her.
