2 Killed, 23 Others Injured In Stampede At Religious Event In Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal: Two devotees were on Tuesday killed and 23 others injured in a stampede at Kebereshwar Dham temple in Sehore in Madhya Pradesh.
The tragedy occurred at around 12.30 pm when devotees started swelling at the shrine ahead of ‘Kanwar Yatra’, scheduled to be held on Wednesday.
The annual event, steered by the chief priest of the shrine and religious preacher Pandit Pradeep Mishra, attracts lakhs of devotees from across the state.
The stampede occurred at the puja material shop inside the shrine when a surging crowd caused several women and elderly persons to fall and then be crushed by other devotees.
Two people were fatally injured, police said.
Several other devotees also suffered injuries, while some others fell unconscious, police said.
They were evacuated and shifted to the district trauma Centre, police said.
Local additional superintendent of police (ASP) Sunita Rawat has confirmed the death of two persons and said that efforts were on to identify them.
Eyewitnesses said complete chaos prevailed at the spot with elderly devotees collapsing and the volunteers trying hard to wade through the gathering to pull them out.
It took nearly 50 minutes for them to rescue the injured people and rush them to the district trauma Centre, sources said.
