Ramana in two minds as BJP, TRS woo TD strongman
Karimnagar: It looks like a tug-of-war is in the offing between the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as Telangana Telugu Desam Party (T-TDP) president L Ramana is dilly-dallying over whether to join the pink party or the saffron one. Both the national and regional parties are understandably vying with each other to rope in the BC strongman in the district.
“Both the BJP and the TRS invited me to join their parties, but will announce my decision after discussing with local leaders of the respective parties and the TDP,” said Ramana while addressing the press persons here at the party office in Jagtial district on Monday.
Ramana said several unexpected changes were taking place in the state politics. The parties were assessing the situations time-to-time to strengthen themselves from grassroot levels and were taking decisions accordingly, he said.
Belonging to the Backward Class community, Ramana strove hard right from the beginning to strengthen the TDP. Chief Ministers of united Andhra Pradesh, late N. T. Rama Rao and N. Chandrababu Naidu gave him much needed encouragement.
Ramana was made a minister in the TDP Cabinet and also the party provided him an opportunity to serve as an MP. Adhering to the principles of the party, he worked hard to increase the respect among the people for the TDP, he said.
Decrying the propaganda on social media that he had sought some lucrative posts from the BJP and the TRS, he said he never sent any such proposals to other parties. Both the TRS and the BJP invited him to join their respective parties, but they did not assure him of any higher posts, he pointed out.
Ramana said he never ran after posts. When he was working for the TDP, the party, identifying his services, had given him some responsibilities which he handled perfectly.
He said his well-wishers asked him to make wise decisions so that he could serve the people better. So, after discussing not only with the TDP workers, but also with the local leaders of both the TRS and the BJP, along with his followers, he may announce his decision later, he informed.
