Marking an apogee to a vibrant career, National award winning actress Kalpana Ranjani took her last breath at the age of 51 on Monday owing to a sudden heart attack. Though her death might signal an end to her on screen presence, her idiosyncratic and quirky style will continue to linger in a million of minds. The maverick, though, initially aspired of becoming an actress, took to comic characters later on.

Kicking off her career at a tender age of 12, she never looked back. As a child artist, she bagged her first role in the year 1977 in the Malayalam movie Vidarunna Mottukal. Her credibility as an actor catapulted to a notch when she garnered her first prestigious accolade for the movie Thanichalla Njan. Though the movie ended up getting entangled in a slew of controversies, Kalpana’s breathtaking performance in the movie as a Muslim woman rendered a considerable impetus to the same.

Besides, the actress’s zany humour got equally appreciated in the Tamil movie Sathi Leelavathi. Her comic timing in the aforementioned movie concocted with bouts of emotional upheavals received an amiable response from the audience and the critiques as well. Her role of a conventional housewife, who on being cheated by her husband, takes to tricks that would lead to a reconciliation of sorts limned the role of a traditional Indian woman.
However, the eccentric didn’t believe in creating a niche of hers, she was on a constant run to do something new, and it got effectively reflected in the most-sort after music video Palavattam along with Usha Uthup. Her swanky moves and outlandish expressions in the video amassed massive appreciation.
