MIM Aided by Congress, BRS: BJP

Venkateshwarlu accused the AIMIM of turning the Old City into a haven for terror groups and questioned the rationale behind Congress and BRS support to the party.

Hyderabad: The result of the Hyderabad local body MLC election has exposed the "unholy alliance" between the AIMIM, Congress and the BRS, BJP general secretary Dr Kasam Venkateshwarlu said on Friday. He alleged that the Congress and the BRS had openly backed the MIM, a party that opposed the formation of Telangana and obstructed development works, including the extension of Metro Rail to the Old City.

Venkateshwarlu accused the AIMIM of turning the Old City into a haven for terror groups and questioned the rationale behind Congress and BRS support to the party. He claimed MIM leaders had paid homage to terrorists killed in encounters with security forces and criticised the BRS for instructing its corporators to abstain from voting.

BJP candidate Dr N. Gautham Rao called the party’s performance in the election a moral victory, saying it had exposed how the BRS and the Congress acted under the AIMIM’s influence. He said the outcome showed the extent to which both parties had undermined the people of Hyderabad.

BJP Assembly deputy floor leader Payal Shankar said that while the three parties appear as separate entities, they operated with the same ideological mindset. He claimed that the MIMIM, confined to just three Assembly segments, had won seven seats due to the backing of the Congress and BRS and urged voters to examine how the MIM survives by aligning with whichever party is in power.
