Al-Jazeera says 3 of its reporters kidnapped in Yemen
Dubai: Al-Jazeera says three of its journalists working in war-ravaged Yemen likely have been kidnapped.
The Qatari satellite news broadcaster says Hamdi al-Bokari, Abdulaziz al-Sabri and Moneer al-Sabai were last seen on Monday night. The network says the three were reporting for Al-Jazeera's Arabic channel in Taiz, a city in southern Yemen that's been the scene of heavy fighting for months now.
In a statement late Thursday night, Al-Jazeera's acting director-general Mostefa Souag called for the men's immediate release. He said: "Our colleagues were simply doing their job of reporting the story and informing the world on what is taking place in Yemen."
A Saudi-led coalition has been battling Shiite rebels known as Houthis on behalf of Yemen's internationally recognized government since March.
