Amaravati: The landfall process of severe cyclonic storm (SCS) Montha has begun off the Andhra Pradesh coast and it will continue for the next three to four hours, the IMD said on Tuesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alerts for several coastal districts, including East Godavari, Krishna, and Visakhapatnam, warning of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and potential flooding.
Authorities have evacuated thousands from low-lying areas, closed schools, and suspended train and flight services in the affected regions. Residents are advised to stay indoors, avoid coastal areas, and follow official advisories.

South Central Railway Cancels Several Trains Due to Cyclone Montha
In view of the imminent Cyclone ‘Montha’ and to ensure passenger safety, the South Central Railway (SCR) has announced the cancellation of several train services scheduled for October 28 and 29, 2025.
According to an official notification, the following trains have been cancelled:
Train No. 17248 – Dharmavaram to Narasapur (29.10.2025)
Train No. 17256 – Lingampalli to Narasapur (29.10.2025)
Train No. 12776 – Lingampalli to Kakinada Town (29.10.2025)
Train No. 17215 – Machilipatnam to Dharmavaram (28.10.2025)
Train No. 17216 – Dharmavaram to Machilipatnam (29.10.2025)
SCR officials stated that the cancellations are precautionary, prioritizing the safety of passengers as Cyclone Montha approaches the coastal regions.

Cyclone Disrupts Train Services in Andhra Pradesh; 95 Trains Cancelled Across Coastal Districts
Due to the impact of the cyclone, several trains in Andhra Pradesh have been cancelled. A total of 95 train services passing through the coastal districts have been suspended. Under the East Coast Railway zone, trains passing through Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam have been cancelled. Services to and from Rajahmundry, Machilipatnam, Guntur, Tirupati, Chennai, and Secunderabad have also been affected.
Railway authorities have announced the cancellation of 29 trains passing through Visakhapatnam, as well as several trains coming from different states to Visakhapatnam. Both passenger and express trains scheduled for today and tomorrow have been cancelled due to the cyclone’s impact.

Kakinada Port under highest warning
Authorities have issued the highest warning signal number 10 at Kakinada Port, indicating an extremely dangerous situation as Cyclone Montha approaches the Andhra Pradesh coast. Warning signal number nine has been issued at Visakhapatnam, Gangavaram, and Kalingapatnam ports, while Krishnapatnam, Machilipatnam, and Vadarevu ports are under warning signal number eight. Officials said 67 villages across 12 mandals in Kakinada district are likely to be affected by the cyclone, which may also impact around 30 Assembly constituencies across the state.

Severe Cyclone Montha Nears Andhra Coast; Landfall Expected Between Kakinada and Machilipatnam
Cyclone Montha over the west-central Bay of Bengal has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm and is moving at a speed of 15 kmph over the past six hours.
According to the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority, the system is currently centered 190 km from Machilipatnam, 270 km from Kakinada, and 340 km from Visakhapatnam.
The cyclone is expected to cross the coast tonight between Kakinada and Machilipatnam, accompanied by strong winds reaching 90–110 kmph.
Under its influence, very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is likely across coastal Andhra districts from Srikakulam to Nellore, with isolated areas expected to receive exceptionally heavy rainfall.
Officials have urged people to stay indoors and remain safe, assuring that the government machinery is fully prepared to handle any emergency.
