Amaravati: The landfall process of severe cyclonic storm (SCS) Montha has begun off the Andhra Pradesh coast and it will continue for the next three to four hours, the IMD said on Tuesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alerts for several coastal districts, including East Godavari, Krishna, and Visakhapatnam, warning of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and potential flooding.
Authorities have evacuated thousands from low-lying areas, closed schools, and suspended train and flight services in the affected regions. Residents are advised to stay indoors, avoid coastal areas, and follow official advisories.

Two dead as cyclone hits Godavari districts plunged in darkness
Cyclone Montha has claimed the life of two persons in the Godavari districts till reports came in around 9 p.m. Gusty winds uprooted trees and electric poles, disrupting power supply and leaving entire areas in darkness.
A woman G. Veeraveni (49) died on the spot at Makavanipalem village in Mamidikuduru mandal in East Godavari when a tree got uprooted in gale winds and fell on her. At Kakinada, a youth got washed away into the sea in Kumbhabhishekam area.

Cyclone Halts Flights, Trains to Andhra Pradesh
Air and rail services to Andhra Pradesh have been hit as the Cyclone Montha disrupts travel. Flights from Hyderabad’s Shamshabad airport to Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, and Vijayawada were cancelled, with IndiGo and Air India Express scrapping 35 services on Tuesday.
South Central Railways said 165 trains were affected — 122 cancelled, eight diverted, and 29 rescheduled.

Odisha landslides cut access to five Gajapati villages
IMD’s Paradip radar at 8:30 pm shows Montha’s heaviest bands over Gajapati, Rayagada and Koraput, pushing north toward Kandhamal and Kalahandi with gusty conditions along the Ganjam coast.
Landslides hit the south: boulders blocked access to five villages in Anaka (Gajapati) and a fresh slip cut the Linga-Barabha road in Kashinagar block.

Cyclone’s Eye Near Kakinada, Heavy Rains Sweep Konaseema, Machilipatnam Coast

The inner rain ring sits over Konaseema. A fresh band curls toward Machilipatnam, Avanigadda and Diviseema, then the Vijayawada-Guntur corridor. Sudden calm at Kakinada signals the eye; the back wall follows next, stronger wind and sheets of rain.
Eluru and West Godavari now see spillover and lighter showers reach Vizianagaram and Srikakulam. Expect quick flooding on delta roads and a push of sea water into creeks around Yanam, Narsapur, Palakollu and Bhimavaram.

IMD: Cyclone has intensified further and begun making landfall along AP and Yanam coasts
The cyclone moved north-northwestwards at a speed of 17 kmph during the past six hours and was centered at 7.30 pm about 90 km south of Kakinada, 110 km east of Machilipatnam, 210 km southwest of Visakhapatnam, and 450 km southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha).
IMD reported that the landfall process is continuing, with the system expected to bring wind speeds of 90–100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph and heavy to very heavy rainfall over the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh and Yanam.

Heavy rains lash Nellore and Prakasam; Woman swept away in flooded stream
In a tragic incident, a middle-aged woman and cattle grazer, K. Jayamma, was washed away in a flooded stream (Pottelu Vagu) near Gotlapalem village in Vadlapudi panchayat, Manubolu mandal, on Tuesday.
According to locals, the mishap occurred while she was returning home with her cattle. The Village Administrative Officer (VAO) and villagers rushed to the spot and are awaiting the arrival of expert swimmers to trace her body.
Meanwhile, heavy rains battered SPSR Nellore and Prakasam districts throughout Tuesday under the influence of Cyclone Montha. The downpour, accompanied by strong winds, intensified as the day progressed, uprooting trees and electric poles in parts of Nellore city. Power and municipal staff acted swiftly to restore electricity and clear debris from blocked roads.

AP evacuates 31,600 ahead of the critical 12-hour cyclone window
AP government evacuated 31,600 people to safety and established 554 relief camps across nine coastal districts even as Cyclone Montha started barrelling towards the Andhra Pradesh coast.
To minimise power disruption, 18,000 electricity poles have been kept on standby at various locations for taking up immediate restoration work.

Vehicle movement suspended in seven cyclone-hit districts in AP
Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Real Time Governance Society (AP RTGS) has issued warnings that the impact of Cyclone Montha will be severe across several districts — Krishna, Eluru, East Godavari, West Godavari, Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, and the Chinturu and Rampachodavaram divisions of Alluri Sitarama Raju district.
In light of this, the State Government has ordered the suspension of vehicular movement in these seven districts from 8:30 p.m. tonight (Tuesday) until 6 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday).

Officials to use drones in cyclone-affected areas, CM issues instructions
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has asked officials to utilize the services of drones in marooned cyclone-affected areas and continuously monitoring the emerging situations.More attention wuld be paid to places where a possibility of flash floods exists due to the overflowing of streams.
Naidu, along with deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan, conducted a thorough review of the ongoing impact of Cyclone Motha in the state.
