Roach found in sambar rice at top restaurant in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Two customers at Minerva Drive-In in Tourism Plaza, Begumpet, found a cockroach in the sambar rice served to them on Thursday. They reported the matter on social media, leading to inspections by food safety officials.
The incident occurred around 2 pm when Suresh and Rana, regular customers, ordered idli and sambar rice. While eating, the found a cockroach in their spoon and informed the hotel staff.
“By the time we found the cockroach, we had eaten four spoonsful of food. This was shocking,” said the complainants while speaking to Deccan Chronicle.
The complainants alleged that upon inspecting the kitchen, they found unclean conditions and poorly maintained vegetables.
Though the restaurant managers apologised and assured them that such incidents would not happen again, the franchise owner allegedly responded rudely.
The complainants informed the food safety officials about the incident. Three hours later, an assistant medical professor from the food safety department visited the restaurant to inspect the premises. Authorities have collected the food samples and are expected to take further action based on the investigation.
