Running for a cause

The event was organised by TTK Hospitals, who said the motto of the marathon was Awake! Say no to addiction'.

Runners in the city took part in the ‘Anuvrat’ marathon to promote de-addiction, general well-being and mental health of the people. The event, with over 3,000 people participating was flagged off by actor Santhanam in the presence of the Eleventh Head Preceptor of the Jain Shwetamber Terapanth Sect, Acharya Shri Mahashraman.

The event was organised by TTK Hospitals, who said the motto of the marathon was ‘Awake! Say no to addiction’. The hospital is well-known for having done pioneering work in the field of de-addiction. It was also one of the first centre in the city to help out alcoholics and drug addicts.

Beginning at 5.30 am from Madhavaram, the 5 km marathon came to a halt at Moolakkadai while the 10-km event took a U-turn to close at the starting point.”The participants covered a distance of 5 km and 10 km distances in two groups spreading awareness on de-addiction and demonstrating their support for the noble cause,” a spokesperson for the hospital said.

The event was held following a session on deaddiction of the internet and mobile phones by Dr Anita Rao, Director of Medical Services at the TTK hospital who highlighted that the threat was real and was disconnecting people from their real lives.
