Liverpool's Mo Salah's injury is God's punishment for breaking Ramzan fast: Preacher

According to preacher, although Muslims are allowed to stop fasting for travel, eating to play football was not legitimate excuse.

A Kuwaiti preacher has now claimed that Mo Salah’s Champions League final injury was a punishment from God for breaking his Ramadan fast for the match.

The Liverpool player had hurt his shoulder in a tussle with Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos 31 minutes into the crucial game.

Shawki Allam, the Grand Mufti of Egypt had allowed Salah and his international team-mates to postpone their fasting in the days leading to the World Cup.

Following the match, preacher Mubarak al-Bathali said in a tweet that “God punished him” for eating before the match during the holy month.

According to the preacher, although Muslims are allowed to stop fasting for travel, eating and drinking so he could play a football match was “not a legitimate excuse”.

According to a story published in The Sun, Al-Bathali said that because Salah intended to break his fast for the game, rather than because he was travelling from Britain to Ukraine, he had sinned.

Al-Bathali claimed Salah was given bad advice and as a result had to bear the brunt of it.

The Egyptian’s injury has put him in doubt for the World Cup in Russia next month, which the preacher said would remind him everything happens according to God's will.
