Obama's tango partner dances to lofty record
Buenos Aires: An Argentine tango dancer who made headlines for a sultry dance with US President Barack Obama has set a Guinness world record for tangoing on a platform suspended 60 meters (200 feet) in the air.
Perched at eye level with the downtown Buenos Aires skyline, Mora Godoy took a whirl on a platform hanging mid-air beside the Argentine capital's famed Obelisk monument, setting a new record for tango dancing at height. Attached by harnesses, Godoy and a partner spun around the small square platform to the beats of a contemporary electronic tango number Monday night as Guinness Book of World Records representatives looked on.
Godoy shot to fame when she asked Obama to dance during his visit to Argentina in March. The video of the US president strutting his stuff with her at a state dinner made world news and went viral online. Godoy, who called Obama a "very good dancer," undertook her latest stunt for the season premiere of the television variety program Showmatch.
No record for tango dancing at height previously existed. The organization had set a minimum height of 50 meters to establish it as a category, Guinness representative Sarah Casson said.
