The year that was...
The year began with a bang with Mysuru’s royal scion Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar tying the knot with Rajasthani princess, Trishika Kumari Singh in what was the first wedding in 40 years at the Amba Vilas Palace. The week-long celebrations saw over 1,000 guests from around the world.
Speaking of filmy weddings, another wedding that made headlines was Nirup Bhandari of the RangiTaranga fame who got hitched to Dhanya.
Bigg Boss finalist and Sandalwood star Deepika Kamaiah too got hitched to her long-time beau Sumanth Gopi in Coorg earlier this week, in an affair that saw many Bengalureans who were spotted at the wedding at Manipal County in Coorg.
In what was one of Sandalwood’s best kept secrets, actress Anu Prabhakar and Raghu Mukherjee were apparently something of an item. After their respective divorces a couple of years ago, the personal lives of both these actors were off limits for their fans, who didn’t even know both of them were friends! They tied the knot earlier this year in April.
The big, fat filmy wedding of the year award probably goes to Kannada actors’ Yash and Radhika Pandit’s massive nuptials at the Palace Grounds. The cute star couple got married in a traditional Hindu ceremony with their friends and family by their side. A few actors from the film industry.
Bengaluru’s supermodel Krithika Babu also got hitched in December. She tied the knot with Vishnu, her long-time beau and the duo looked picture perfect!
Another popular city couple who got married was restaurateurs Vikram Dasappa and Meenakshi Raju at a royal ceremony at the Bangalore Palace. Looks like 2016 was the year of the cupid, and we can’t wait for 2017 to unfold more starry nights!
Sports highs of 2016
The 18-year-old city girl Aditi Ashok began the year by turning pro in January and by being the youngest golfer on the Olympics field in Rio de Janerio. In November, she became the first Indian to claim successive titles at the Ladies European Tour, with wins in the Indian Open and Qatar Open.
In the world of billiards, Bengaluru boy Pankaj Advani continued to be relentless. He ruled the green baize by winning the World Billiards title in the short format to take his overall tally to 16!
Even city boy Karun Nair became the second Indian cricketer (after Virender Sehwag) to score a triple century in Test cricket against England.
In football, apart from clinching the 2016 I-League title, the Bengaluru Football Club (BFC) became the first Indian club to reach the AFC Cup finals too! It’s captain, Sunil Chhetri announced that he was tying the knot with longtime girlfriend, Sonam Bhattacharya too!
