Radio to video

RJ Vidya's web channel is making a mark even with celebrities.

Radio Jockey Vidya Sivalenka’s new web channel Vidyafy is getting quite a lot of attention with celebrities sharing her videos and several fans connecting to the content. A popular name on radio, thanks to her stint as an RJ, where she primarily talks about cinema on air. She takes that ahead and discusses everything cinema on Vidyafy too. “Every week I am talking about films and related emotions. Be it the fans’ love for the first day, first show, or their excitement before the release of their favourite actor’s film. With time, I will discuss food, music, Hyderabad and a lot more,” says the 24-year-old who’s got around six videos on her channel. Every video on the channel is about five points, hence the name. “I also came up with the name because we tend to generally use the suffixfy for everything, including Telugu words,” she adds.

With almost four hours on air every day, how did the idea of another job come up? “I was already juggling between two jobs — I work for an app, a web portal and now, this,” she shares, adding, “I have always been interested by the media sector and so, I’ve been in the industry for around one-and-a-half years. However, the digital world, especially YouTube, really fascinated me. I am not an avid television watcher and do not follow any TV series but I follow YouTube. Song covers, stand-up comedy shows and web series. I observed that many were single-handedly wielding their channels and I wanted to do something of that sort.”

Vidya wanted to start her channel a long time back, but it took time for her to finally begin. “I was scared of the camera. The fear stopped me from going ahead. But, Madhuri from SillyMonks pushed me to do it. Now, her team helps me with my work. I develop the content and they shoot and edit it for me,” she reveals.

While the likes of Tharun Bhascker, Regina Cassandra and Rahul Ravindran have all shared her work and appreciated it, Vidya’s biggest compliment came from her father, Telugu film producer Sivalenka Krishna Prasad. “There’s only one compliment which is really special. My father never checks out my work but this time he not only saw my video but also appreciated it,” she says.
