Election Commission flying squad official was rude, says Namitha’s husband
Actress Namitha’s husband Veera has denied reports carried in Tamil newspapers that his wife was involved in an altercation when an Election Commission flying squad stopped her car for checking on Salem- Yercaud highway recently.
Veera explained the sequence of events that occurred as he along with wife Namitha were travelling to Yercaud for her upcoming film’s shoot. He begins by saying, “The reports that are being circulated for the past few days on us were totally misinterpreted.
Veera explains, “My wife Namitha was sleeping in the back seat, as it was 2.30 am. Before this unfortunate incident, we were stopped 3 times at different junctions, and we cooperated with everyone, and they were all respectful. But when we reached the junction of Salem- Yercaud, the gentleman from the EC stopped us and very rudely spoke to everyone in the car. He was showing his authority to everyone and behaving as if we were criminals! He even opened the back door of the car despite my pleas that my wife was sleeping and that I would wake her up. He still went and opened the door and Namitha, who was having a nap with her back resting on the door, almost fell out of the car.”
Veera goes on to add, “The official said ‘sorry’, but didn’t stop searching the car as if we were trafficking some illegal substances. Then he started checking everyone's bags and when it came to Namitha's bags she refused to open her bag to him as it was her personal bag and carried some intimate items. She said she would be comfortable if a female cop was arranged to check her bag.
That was the only thing she said and neither did she object nor did she argue as reported. It’s every woman's right to ask for a female cop if she's uncomfortable. According to me, this whole matter has been blown out of proportion, because it was a celebrity (Namitha) who demanded a female cop.”
