Moroccan TV broadcasts makeup tutorials for hiding domestic abuse bruises

The segment had been broadcasted just two days before the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Moroccan state broadcaster Channel 2M has created international controversy by showing makeup lessons for women on how to camouflage injury marks due to domestic abuse. Daily programme, Sabahiyat, aired a segment that featured a makeup artist using cosmetics to conceal marks of beating on a model whose face was made up to look swollen with fake bruises.

“We hope these beauty tips will help you carry on with your daily life”, the host said at the end of the demonstration. The segment had been broadcasted on 23rd November which was two days before the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Hundreds of women signed a petition that demanded not just an apology but also sanctions against the TV station. Although the channel later removed the clip of that show from its website, it is still being circulated by outraged netizens on social media.
