A father was overwhelmed with emotion when he listened to his dead daughter’s heartbeat inside a boy after he had a successful heart transplant surgery. Shawn Zimmerman, who is from Florida, had lost his daughter and son in a drunk-driving accident in March. The family had been generous enough to donate the organs of their deceased children to the needy.
Alj Jefferies, who received Zimmerman’s daughter Katelyn’s heart, is the same age as she was at the time of the fatal accident – 14. When both the families met for the first time, months after the heart transplant surgery, Shawn was able to listen to Katelyn’s heart again only this time it was via a stethoscope to Alj’s chest.
“It put us at peace knowing that Katelyn's heart is still beating, even though it's not in her,” Zimmerman tearfully said, according to a report by FOX8.
