Potterheads get MORE!
We flipped page after page, the magic waning at our fingertips. The green-eyed bespectacled man touched the faded scar on his forehead as he watched his son board the train to Hogwarts. Before we knew it, the last speck of the ephemeral magic was extinguished. Hogwarts was just another fictional place, Quidditch didn’t exist and owls certainly don’t deliver letters. Kanika Kumar opines, “Pottermore allowed me to further emotionally invest in the Harry Potter world. I felt like I was a part of that world!”
J.K Rowling, the creator of the Wizarding world, was determined to revive the magic by launching Pottermore which is the global digital publisher of Harry Potter. This site includes additional information on the houses of Hogwarts, the Wizarding schools of the world, character sketches, brief insights into The Cursed Child and Fantastic Beasts and other feature articles. Fans around the city have expressed their take on the purpose of Pottermore!
“J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter has certainly delved into the hearts of fanatics, popularised as Potterheads. Even after seven years, this series itself seems to be a horcrux to many. I began designing wands that grabbed attention, so I turned it into a business with a lot of orders coming from across the city. Always wanted to know your patronus and the house you belong to at Hogwarts? Pottermore is where you must fly to on your Nimbus 2000!” says Harsh Gupta, a B.Com student at St Joseph’s College of Commerce.
Kanika Kumar, a BA student of Christ University, is an ardent Potterhead and has been following the series since she was a child. She opines, “Harry Potter was not just a story for me. It was a world that made me a better and happier person. I’m glad that we still get information about the characters because it feels like the journey hasn’t ended. Knowing more about the characters opens new perspectives that I did not have access to as a child. I have grown up with these characters and it feels like I know them personally now. The emotional bond that I have with the Harry Potter universe has deepened because of Pottermore.”
Raksha Rodrigues, a B.Com student of St Joseph’s College of Commerce, adds that one of the first books that she ever read was Harry Potter and it is a journey that has never come to an end. She opines, “Pottermore gives me the feels that I felt during the summer vacation when I first read it. It rekindles the feeling of a Potterhead. All the characters are given the equal amount of importance and it gives us insight into things that were not explored in the books!”
Pottermore has played a role in retaining the magic that we thought we lost after the release of the last Harry Potter film and helps fans to explore novel areas and broadens their imagination. In the words of J.K Rowling, “Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home.”
