Troll' victims of 2018

Each month of 2018 had its poster person to keep the internet buzzing with memes.

With more and more people using smartphones, memes have become so much a part of our daily lives that waking up to trolls about a particular celebrity is all too common. This year, for instance, people had a blast looking at memes that shook the Internet. Whether they were on Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp or any other social media app, memes were a rage. And there was one famous meme for every month all of them downright funny. We take a look at those that made it big!

January
Belonged to Anant Ambani
Billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s son Anant Ambani was the butt of all jokes after his expressions at an event to commemorate 40 years of Reliance went viral. While a few just made fun of his expressions, others were plain demeaning.

March
Joke’s on Thanos
The famed villain of Avengers: Infinity War was coming to Earth in March to destroy it. Little did he expect to be the troll for the month! The fact that he did manage to destroy the planet, albeit only in the movie, did not deter fans from going gaga and making fun of him.

April
Consumed by the Black Buck
This was a month when the Salman Khan Black Buck case made headlines. And ‘Bhai’ as we know, has been the darling of the media. So what followed was a barrage of memes with the right dose of fun.

May
Made for Sanjay Dutt
The film Sanju released and Ranbir Kapoor aka Sanjay Dutt in the film kept us entertained the whole month. The most famous ones were those involving Sanjay Dutt’s jail term.

June|
Ode to Chai
June took everyone by surprise. Who knew the humble tea (chai) would turn into memes. A woman made YouTube videos asking friends to drink tea. The drawling invitation ‘Hello friends chai peelo’ immortalised tea.

July
When Rahul met Modi
The love-hate relationship of a Prime Minister and an aspiring Prime Minister is all too well known. Indeed we refer to PM Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi. Rahul hugged Modi in Parliament and all hell broke loose. They ended up becoming the memes in July.

August
Sacred Games rule Supreme
Everyone and their aunt with a Netflix id watched Sacred Games. You must know what this means (unless you’ve been living under a rock). So it wasn’t a surprise when they ruled the roost in August.

September
All about sad Anushka
September saw the launch of Anushka Sharma starrer Sui Dhaaga. More than the film, what caught attention, were the memes of Anushka Sharma sitting down with her hand propped up against her chin for support. And her expression was a treat for all sad memes. She became the queen of sad memes, even if only for a month.

October
Encounter tales
Remember the UP cop who imitated gun shots during an encounter with Maoists. The police officials ran out of ammunition and were left with no option but to imitate gun shots. This satiated our need for memes in October.

November
DeepVeer reign
The most awaited celebrity wedding of Deepika and Ranveer set the stage for a healthy dose of memes. Right from photos of their sangeet to those of their reception, nothing was left untouched.

December
Mirzapur the Showstopper
As December rolled out, Mirzapur grabbed all the attention and became the showstopper. People just couldn’t get over Ali Zafar’s transformation, and that gave way to a lot of creative memes.

Of course, there have been other memes that merit mention, like Yogi Adityanath in ‘I will change your name...’ and many other funny ones. Sadly, they failed to get the attention they deserved.
