Man returns ring lost by couple on honeymoon 47 years ago
After 47 years, a couple who lost a ring on their honeymoon is miraculously reunited with it.
The couple have a man named Jim Writh to thank after he made the discovery on a beach in Cape Cod.
In 1970, Patrick and Christine O’Hagan were enjoying their new days as a married couple on that very beach. While in the water, Patrick lost his balance and the ring fell off, the New York Post reported.
They tried tirelessly to find the $100 gift Christine bought her husband in 1969, but failed. However, they never forgot it and would try looking for it on other beaches over the years. "It was like a piece of our early years that was missing,” Christine told NBC.
Then one day in July, Wirth was walking on that same beach with his metal detector when he discovered an old ring. In a Facebook post he revealed he cleaned it up and noticed it was engraved. "So I Googled the name and college, and one result brought me to a page from a book written in 2005 that told of the author falling in love with (name in the ring)," Wirth wrote on Facebook.
After extensive research he found Christine's contact details and called her. When he told her what he found, it left her shocked. "I think "oh my God" was her initial response," Wirth said.
The owners were incredibly grateful when the ring was returned. "This all brought back a lot of memories,” Patrick is quoted as saying by the New York Post. Adding, "It's an amazing story. If you put it in a book, nobody would believe it was true."
