Chant a mantra to get most out of massage.

“We are very happy to come to Chennai!” exclaims Neville Umrigar, Managing Partner of the Palms Spa. Neville and his wife Sabita are the owners of the Mumbai-based chain of luxury spas. “Spas are our passion.” he tells us, “So we personally oversee each and every aspect of its day-to-day running.” Neville and Sabita have put together an interesting bouquet of massages and facials for their first spa in Chennai and promise us that the treatments will both relax and invigorate.

“In India we have found that the masseuse is not properly trained and can be very rough which can be damaging. So we put all our therapists through very rigorous training and ensure that they are proficient at all types of massages including Thai and Balinese, but that they are also gentle.” he explains.

The massage therapists and all of the staff are indeed very skilled but they are also warm and hospitable. The spa which is located on the ground floor of the Crowne Plaza hotel (formerly Park Sheraton) is the very definition of luxury. Its beautiful interiors, designed and executed specially by the hotel, are reminiscent of a luxurious Mughal-style bath house with white marble and rivets accentuating the sumptuous experience. In addition to the private massage rooms with en-suite showers, the spa also has a steam room and private lockers for guests.

Neville also recommends the Matrix Rhythm therapy massage which a healing therapy available exclusively at the Palms. This revolutionary therapy formulated by Dr. Ulrich Randoll will aid patients suffering from joint pain, combats wound healing disorders and all types of sports injuries.
