Rumbles for Ramadan

Ramadan begins on Saturday and youngsters are looking forward to gorging on yummy food in the city.

Rich haleem garnished with finely chopped nuts, pathar ka ghost, sinfully indulgent qubani ka meetha, assortments of endless varieties of kebabs and much more. With Ramadan round the corner, many famous eateries in the city known for their festive delicacies will be treating the city to those palette pleasing delights till the end of the Holy month. Both, those observing fasts, and the faithful foodies from the city, will swarm these joints alike.

A self-proclaimed Haleem connoisseur (a freelance photographer), Reevan Rego, can’t wait to taste and grade them. “I intend to go on a quest for the best tasting Haleem. Apart from that, I want to try Patthar Ghosht and kebabs,” he quips. Zenil Ashraf, a businessman, proudly declares, “Although there are several outlets that cater to the tastebuds of people fasting, as well as other communities, during Ramdan, I always look forward to the exquisite delicacies that my mom prepares. My mom is from the Malabar region, which is the snack capital of Kerala, so she prepares various tasty snacks for breaking the fast.”

A foodie who will also be fasting, Ameena Khan, a student, confesses, “I can’t wait for the Holy month. There are so many famous places in areas like Basavangudi and Frazer Town where you find the best food to break the fast. So, I will be visiting all these places without fail.” Another foodie from the city, Bharath Umashankar, a senior financial analyst, likes to indulge in these gastronomic delights. “Yes! I am looking forward to it. People from all religions get together to experience the amazing spread. Varieties of mouth watering delicious treats are found at one place!,” he says

And how are some of these vintage Bengalurean joints gearing up?

Shakir, co-owner of Fanoos, confirms, “Authentic Hyderabadi Haleem will be on the menu like always. Sweets like Gajar Ka Halwa, Gulab Jamoon, Hyderabadi Qubbani and much more will be available on the special festive menu. Also, a whole lot of variety of chicken, mutton and vegetarian dishes will be there to please all kinds of customers.” Looks like the foodies and the eateries in the city are all set to rekindle their festive ‘affair’.
