Thrissur: Anup K Venu, a freelance photographer for the Deccan Chronicle, has won the Kerala Media Academy Award for 2015. The award is for a picture that appeared in DC on July 17 2015 with the caption ‘Singh is King’.

The photograph shows ADGP Rishiraj Singh seen sitting in his seat during a passing out parade function in Kerala Police Training Academy while the then Home Minister Ramesh Chennithal arrived for the function. The incident had created a huge controversy in the state. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and a memento.
