Sense of purpose!

Things that adversely affect us, can be used to do meaningful work.

While the Paris attacks altered many lives, it affected some adversely, while some others have taken it in their stride to be more responsible.

One such is 18-year-old Sidharth Bendi, a musician and student of CBIT. From playing music to being the founder of the Beautiful World Movement, he has taken it up on himself to prove that students can be thoughtful and responsible.

“It all started a year back, when I was penning the song The Beautiful World. I needed to visit a few orphanages to shoot the music video. That very visit changed everything; there are so many people who lack access to basic amenities. So, I thought, ‘why not do something for the society in our own capacity?’,” says Sidharth.

Explaining further he says, “We started with only four members, but right now there are hundereds of volunteers. And all of them are college students, aged between 15-20 years.”

The group organises fund-raisers every six months, during vacation, to garner funds to help the education of orphan kids and provide shelter for animals. “The movement has been very successful in raising funds through fun musical activities at the events, where students either put up stalls to sell their work or perform. Through this, they showcase their talent and collect funds. We donate the funds to a few orphanages and People for Animals organisation,” he says.

Sidharth, along with his friends, is very hopeful that as the word spreads, more students will join the movement. “It’s not the usual way of donating money to the NGOs. The students find it very engaging and satisfying that they are doing their bit with their talents and not taking money from their parents,” he shares.
