Playback singer and voice artiste Chinmayi Sripaada has once again lashed out at ace lyricist Vairamuthu with a series of posts. She has renewed the debate after Vairamuthu attended the success meet of the film Nedunalvaadai for which he has penned all the songs, besides suggesting a pure Tamil title for the movie. Chinmayi’s latest attack is for the manner in which the lyricist spoke about the Pollachi sex scandal, which has created a storm in TN.
Vairamuthu was present at a filmy event after a gap. At the press gathering to toast Nedunalvaadai’s success, the lyricist praised the film’s director Selvakannan and spoke about many issues, including the present state of Tamil films and their songs and the Pollachi rape scandal. The veteran lyricist said the “animal inside such men” should be removed to stop such cruel crimes.
Reacting to this, Chinmayi wrote, “What a massive image rebuilding exercise of a known open secret of a predator. Idha dhaan sonnen (This is what I said). How are people actually having the conscience to let him pontificate on sexual harassment?!”
She added, “This man asked for a “compromise” through a director's office and said he would send an apology when the first tweets broke out. If I had been street smart, I should have taken the apology, or recorded the call and released it. That would have been the ‘proof’. For days the majority of the outlets of local Tamil media did not want to even report on my own experience of sexual harassment against Mr Vairamuthu. Mr V actively muzzled all criticism against him by popular influencers.”
In yet another post, Chinmayi said sarcastically, “The way these people are going they'll appoint Mr Vairamuthu as the Minister for Women and Child Development / Welfare or something. They asked all TOUGH questions which are reserved FOR Victims alone. To this date Not ONE question has been asked of him. It’s been weeks since I filed a legal complaint and there hasn't been one enquiry! This despite everyone yelling I am ‘influential’; ‘things happen for me’.
THEY DONT. The predators are always protected. Please laugh at political parties that promise women’s safety”.
